Carmelina San Marzano tomatoes…My favorite!

I wanted to share my favorite brand of canned tomatoes, Carmelina. I use these to make my homemade marinara. Why these are my favorite? Aside from the delicious ruby red tomatoes that are bursting with silky sweet flavor, they have no added salt, preservatives, or other ingredients, and they are canned in their natural purée. So all you get are tomatoes! I cannot tell you how many times I have been disappointed by canned tomatoes that were tough, mealy, or had a watery texture as you cooked them. And don’t get me started on the citric acid added to most other brands, or sugar, which I absolutely detest

I buy these in both the Italian chopped variety and whole peeled. You can usually order in the 14 oz can size or the 28 oz size. I prefer the smaller cans so I can use exactly how many cans I need for a recipe without waste. Carmelina brand San Marzano tomatoes can be ordered by the case from Amazon or Wal-Mart. If you’re lucky to find these in your local grocer, stock up! I hope they become your favorite as well.
